Yesterday I read on another lesbian website an article they were critiquing his assertion that movies that feature insane women are Academy Award “shoo-ins.”
Of course they were right to challenge his assumption. Of course it depends on the actor’s ability to be a “transformative” character. In Black Swan Natalie Portman portrayed a character that not so guilelessly moved from one psychological and physiological state to another.
Nina’s internal psychological battle was palpable. We felt her nervousness, at least I felt it. That sense of dire. Good work. Although I fear she will become a victim of Nina Sayers' and maybe that’s why she made a couple of so-so movies, so we wouldn’t become spoiled.
