The Day The “Black Man” Lost His “Swagger”

I’m old school, yes I am old enough to recall the sociological theories of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing’s “The Isis Papers: Keys To The Colors.” Dr. Welsing’s work is still considered http://www.nerdbanite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/swagger.jpggroundbreaking because she employed the sociological theory of “Symbolic Interaction” as derived from American pragmatism and as outlined in the work of George Herbert Mead and Charles Cooley. Symbolic Interaction is a major sociological perspective that places emphasis on micro-scale social interaction, which is particularly important in subfields such as urban sociology and social psychology [Which also happen to be my areas of Academic Expertise].

This is relevant for understanding racism as an element of “Structural Violence” characterized as institutional and supported by the notion of “Invidious Comparison” or identification of differences based on salient characteristics, that are predicated upon a fundamental feature of ownership, since the psychological and ethnological value of an item is determined in large part by the fact that some people are not able to access resources as a result of inherent deficiencies, and some are because they are genetically or culturally superior.

Yes the Brown “Girl” know her shit (M.S.2006) and now you can begin to grasp the reluctance of Presidents Obama’s detractors, who hate the fact that Barack Obama was elected president of the United States in 2008, to identify exactly why they dislike him so much.

For example, when I write about “access” it was unfathomable for supporters of John McCain to accept the fact that academically Barack Obama surpassed him, attended Harvard and was editor-in-chief of the Harvard Law Review.  The same with Michelle.

Obama’s detractors would therefore engage in denigration of Harvard or otherwise indict Obama for any use of assistive technology [e.g. teleprompters] as an indication of his incompetence, yet claim that none of the derision is based on race. They do this because they don’t know any better. A white male wrote to me informing me that he is Cherokee and his people are forgiving, yet the minute I respond that I am Wingapo he replies: “What’s a Wingapo” and do you spend your time drunk and on welfare? White racism at work.

Ironically they would praise Sarah Palin, despite the glaring fact that she lacked sufficient education, or political experience (quitting her governorship after only 6 months).  Laughably they praised the fact that while Palin berated Obama for musing a technology that every president in the modern age uses, she resorted to writing talking points on her hand.

Subconsciously the realization that a male of color (who is supposed to either be: http://www.thegrio.com/assets_c/2010/02/republicans-fear-of-a-black-president-reaches-new-heights-thumb-400xauto-6267.jpgUnemployable, a drug dealer, general criminal, thug) could rise through political ranks to surpass his Caucasian contemporaries instilled a high level of cognitive dissonance, examples of which can be found on social media sited such as You Tube. At Tea Party rallies, in political emails that depict the first family as chimps and Apes, etc.

For years I’ve lived with spectrum of stereotypes that had one common denominator: “Black Man as Incompetent Sexist.”

The nature of “white supremacy” was insightfully illustrated in the Pool Game analogy by Dr. Welsing, in which the the white cue ball systematically exerts dominance by knocking down or elimination the various colored pool balls until confronted by the black 8 Ball.

Whatever white fear of the “Black Man” existed has diminished with the election of Barack H. Obama and his relentless conciliatory demeanor towards right wingnuts. Sadly I don’t believe that impression is going to change as right wingnuts continue to Bitch Slap Obama and as he continues to throw his supporters under the bus.

Obama was elected by a majority of white voters who are dismayed that he refuses to stand up to Republicans, refuses to tout his accomplishments [the LARGEST Tax Break in U.S. History as known as the “Stimulus”, credit card reform, health care reform].

We need an effective 4th political party. A Candidate that will fight for his supporters like Bush did for his, but who can also obliterate Obama in the Primaries and become the Democratic nominee for President. We can’t afford to split votes between Obama and a 4th party candidate, we need a new presidential candidate. Because all of Mr. Obama’s latest rhetoric about making sure the rich pay their fair share is meaningless at this point.
