Arizona murder verdict serves justice

Editor's note: Ruben Navarrette Jr. is a CNN.com contributor, a nationally syndicated columnist and an NPR commentator.
San Diego (CNN) -- It was a monstrous act, the sort of thing to which even a word like "evil" scarcely does justice.
On May 30, 2009, Shawna Forde and two male accomplices dressed up in camouflage and stormed into the home of Raul Flores and Gina Gonzalez. It happened in the small border town of Arivaca, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Tucson. The intruders were hoping to find a stash of drug money, since they mistakenly assumed the family was trafficking in narcotics.
A native of Everett, Washington, Forde is the founder of Minutemen American Defense, one of those border watch groups that gives vigilantes a bad name, and she wanted money to fund the project. One of Forde's alleged accomplices, Jason Bush, is also part of the group. (Forde was once a member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps before being removed from the group for what members described to CNN as unstable behavior.)
Gonzalez has said that her husband woke her and told her that the police were at the door. The woman at the door -- later identified as Forde -- claimed that she and her cohorts were law enforcement officers searching for fugitives. When Raul questioned the story, the three opened fire and killed him. They also shot Gina, but she survived by playing dead.
There were also two daughters. Fortunately, the oldest was spending the night at her grandmother's house. Nine-year-old Brisenia wasn't so lucky. As Gina Gonzalez would later testify in court, Bush fired two shots into the little girl's head despite her pleas. Authorities say it was to get rid of any witnesses.
Gonzalez called 911. The tapes of her hysterically telling the dispatcher that her family had been killed are guaranteed to chill your blood. Within two weeks of the killings, Forde, Bush and Albert Gaxiola were all arrested. Bush confessed, according to law enforcement officials. He and Gaxiola will go on trial for murder this year.
The Face of Evil
Shawna Forde Arizona vigilante convicted of murder
But, for Forde, justice is at hand. It came this week when an Arizona jury convicted her on eight counts, including two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and robbery.
The only question now is whether the death penalty is justified in this case, something the jury still has to decide. That's an easy one. Of course it's justified. If Forde doesn't deserve the death penalty after committing such a heinous act, then it ought to be stricken from the books, because it has no meaning. She should be executed. And if Bush and Gaxiola are also found guilty, they should be put to death as well.
Regrettably, this story isn't likely to end there. Tragedies like this don't happen in a vacuum. Despite frantic attempts by bigger and better-known Minutemen organizations, in the days after the killings, to disown Forde and portray her as a rogue element, this homegrown domestic terrorist had -- according to media reports -- long been active in the border vigilante movement. That crusade apparently takes all comers; no psychological evaluation necessary. And it generates more than enough ugly racism to stoke people like Forde and her accomplices.
A national group of Hispanic Republicans wants to stop the madness. The organization, Somos Republicans, is demanding that Rep. Peter King, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, hold hearings on acts of domestic terrorism allegedly committed by border vigilantes.
The group also is proposing an Arizona state law that would ban known hate groups and individuals who are tied to known hate groups from roaming and patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border without authorization from authorities.
What happened two years ago on the Arizona-Mexico border was no simple robbery or home invasion. It was a hate crime and an especially brutal one carried out by people who patrol the border with guns and infrared night-scopes because they're convinced the country is being invaded and its culture turned inside-out.
Forde once tried politics. She ran for the Everett City Council on an illegal-immigrant platform, where she complained that Americans would have to speak Spanish to get a job when immigrants outnumber "real Americans."
Presumably, these real Americans include other groups of civilian border watchers, some with neo-Nazi sympathies. Clad in military fatigues, fitted with body armor and carrying assault rifles, these groups prowl the U.S.-Mexico border, trying to keep this country safe from invaders. But who will keep the rest of us safe from them?
Clearly, it's a dangerous situation on the border. Let's not kid ourselves and think that because one group of thugs has been brought to justice, that there aren't others out there ready to do harm. It's not enough to mourn the victims. We have to do everything we can to prevent these tragedies from happening in the first place.

Lara Logan Update: At Home, In Good Spirits..

I have a few updates on journalist Lara Logan and, given her situation, all are as positive as we could hope for.

The 39-year old is at home and resting comfortably, surrounded by her husband and two children. In other news:

  • An insider familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that the attack lasted 20 to 30 minutes and "was not a rape."
  • It took place a week after Logan and her crew were already arrested once in Egypt. She returned to interview Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who played a role in organizing the uprising that led to Hosni Mubarak's resignation.

Said Logan to Esquire of that ordeal: "We were arrested, detained, and interrogated. Blindfolded, handcuffed, taken at gunpoint, our driver beaten. It's the regime that arrested us. They arrested [our producer] just outside of his hotel, and they took him off the road at gunpoint, threw him against the wall, handcuffed him, blindfolded him. Took him into custody like that."

  • Friends say Logan plans to be back to work within a few weeks and is in good spirits.
  • Possessing an "incredibly tough constitution, she is going to be okay," a source added.

URBAN Sapphic continues to wish Logan a full recovery and I encourage my readers to do the same.

Assault: The married mother-of-one was attacked after she became surrounded by a mob and was separated from her TV crew

Scenes broadcasted from Egypt in recent laratahrir.08 days have been joyful, but events took a horrific turn for CBS News correspondent Lara Logan on Feb. 11, the day that former president Hosni Mubarak resigned.
CBS News has issued a statement saying on that day, Logan was physically and sexually assaulted by members of the crowd when she was separated from her news crew. The photo above was taken moments before the attack began.

Logan "was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a '60 Minutes' story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration," according to the statement. "It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy."
"She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers," the statement continued.
"She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering," according to CBS News.
Several members of the media were roughed up as they tried to cover events in Egypt. CNN's Anderson Cooper was beaten by hostile members of one crowd as he walked the streets on one volatile day. But the ordeal of Logan, who has covered some of the most dangerous hot spots in the world in her wide-ranging career as a news correspondent, sounds particularly horrible.

As some of URBAN Sapphic’s readers are aware: I’ve often reported on Logan as being an inspiration to me.  She has fearlessly put herself in harm’s way to bring us reports from some of the most volatile environments on earth.

I can only hope that she is surrounded by friends and family as she recovers from this heinous incident.  Our thoughts are with you  Lara.

“Girl You Know It’s True...Ooh, OOh, Ooh...”

That was Mille Vanilli’s Big Hit.

Well don’t you love under reported Hollywood Lesbian Romance.  It’s NOT always about Ellen and Portia you know.

For instance why didn’t I see this dirt YEARS Ago?

There are all these rumours that you had an affair with [Sandra Bernhard. Are they true?]

Patricia Velasquez:

Actress, model and activist Patricia Velasquez.

“Everyone talks about Sandra. Look, she was a very, very important person in my life - and she still is. She was a friend, she was like a mother to me, and also like my daughter sometimes. I had no idea who she was when we first met in France.”

“She came to do a show and we became really good friends {yeah Okay]. People say many things, but at the end of the day people can say what they want. Sandra is somebody that I have in my heart forever, because I didn't even speak English when I met her, and she taught me so much. I didn't even know what a credit card was, or frequent flier cards or any of that stuff. She really, really helped me.”

REALITY Check: Don’t you  get tired of reading about these celebrity  lesbian romances where one partner claims to not know the other was famous?

Patricia may have claimed that she had absolutely no idea who Sandra B was, but I can assure you that even if she didn’t know at first, someone sure as hell gave her the info, because well let’s face it: Sandra herself is NOT supermodel material but she does have “Cha-Ching.”

And thus begins the sugar momma legacy.

It’s NOT amusing (Not even the “Vagina Vote” joke), She’s NOT cute, nor is it Nouveau

What  am I referring to? The triad that consists of Callie Torres, Arizona: “The requisite self loathing lesbian” and Mark Sloane of Grey’s Anatomy.

I know, I know. I previously wrote that I was going to stop watching Grey’s Anatomy because it presents a dangerously false image of lesbians by normalizing Callie Torres’ emotionally abusive behavior and Arizona as being so desperate for love that she will accept a secondary position, or (once the baby is born) a tertiary or 3rd position in Callie’s  life).

Jessica Chapshaw, Grey?s Anatomy What self loathing looks like

Then I see sites like AfterEllen or Dorothy Surrenders attempting to normalize the archetype of the ”Self Loathing Lesbian”: An individual with self esteem that is so low that she doesn’t feel that she is worthy of receiving 100% of her partner’s devotion so is willing to only accept 50%.

This is NOT a rant against bisexuality but instead a complaint that sites that have 1000s of followers (who proudly post their profile photos on those sites as badges of honor) and how they mislead their followers by implying that it’s Okay to settle for 2nd best, or Callie Torres’ bullying behavior.

Just think about it: When Mark Sloane told Lexie about his impending fatherhood her reaction was to retain her dignity at his deception. Lexie may now be having second thoughts, but she still made a stand.

Conversely Arizona allowed Callie Torres to bully her into accepting her betrayal, bisexuality and subsequent pregnancy.

I mean in what universe does a sharp, intelligent and beautiful doctor like Arizona settle for for a selfish, demanding, promiscuous woman like Dr. Calliope Torres who’s emotionally immature to boot? We don’t even see what qualities make Callie so “lovable” to Arizona.

Hell I’ve dated surgeons and they’re smart, but even the dumbest doctor I ever dated was a scholar compared to Dr. Calliope “I can’t figure life out” Torres.

Shame of Shonda Rhimes, AfterEllen and Dorothy Surrenders for failing once again to provide leadership to young lesbians.

It’s a Shut Out! Natalie Portman wins 2011 B.A.F.T.A for Best Actress

Once again Natalie Portman has slammed the door on her competitors in the Best Actress category at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday February 27, 2011, Natalie Portman won best actress for her performance as Nina Sayers: A delusional ballerina in the psychological thriller "Black Swan.
The BAFTA is considered to be a precursor to winning the Academy Award. Marion Cotillard won one prior to her Oscar acceptance for La Vie En Rose.

Portman is also the front-runner for the Oscar. The top British film awards and the Oscars have been aligning fairly closely in recent years.
She was in competition with Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, who costarred in "The Kids Are All Right," Noomi Rapace for "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and Hailee Steinfeld for "True Grit."
There is virtually no way any other actress in going to win the best  actress award this year, as Portman’s performance has let to a virtual clean sweep of acting awards.

If Annette Bening provides an upset by winning the best actress Oscar, then it’s because of her age.  Portman is still young even though the two have been actually almost the same amount of time. Bening 21 years Portman 18 years.

There’s Something About Dr. Torres

When the single mother, nurse Gloria has financial difficulties, her colleague and friend Dr. Ana Torres invites her to move with her six year-old daughter Vicky to her old big house where she runs a gynecologic clinic. In return, Gloria would assist Ana in her clinic in the afternoons. Gloria soon learns that not only is Ana carrying a torch for her, but that she also wants her to assist in providing secret abortions to boot.. When Gloria gets pregnant by her lover Javier, Ana proposes an abortion, and after more than three months, the reluctant Gloria accepts her offer with tragic consequences.

I am all for a woman’s right of choice but there are different sides to every story and this movie is really good.

So Much Better....Unless

Do you mean to tell me that while every non talented actress sports Bleached Blond hair in Hollywood Lucy Lawless is a natural blond who dyes her locks dark? I did not know that. She looks so much better as a blond.
Conversely my secret star fantasy: Morena Baccarin’s colors Blond but looks better as a natural brunette.
Sophia Vergara’s also a natural Blond who like Lucy Lawless colors her hair dark, except Sophia looks damn sexy as a brunette.
I used to believe that the natural look was the best and in Lucy’s case it is.  However women from South America (Baccarin is Brazilian, and Vergara is Columbian) will always be associated with darker hair.

Late Bloomer...Or Better Late Than Never

I wasn’t a fan of Zena and I find Spartacus: Gods of the Arena entertaining but it wasn’t until I saw Lucy Lawless on the Larry David Show speaking with her natural accent that I went “WOW! She’s HOT!!!”I have a huge weakness for accents. She sounds like Zoe Bell.

Part II

BTW There are plenty of people of color in Sweden and there are Jews in New Zealand (though not many): There were 260 olim from Australia and New Zealand, an increase of 48 percent from 175 in 2009.

I mean what rock have I been living under?

Israel Set To Expel Gay Partner of Slain Israeli

Written by lezgetreal | 09 February 2011
Posted in Latest

Thomas Schmidt, 27, a German national was in the process of registering as the life partner of Israeli citizen, Nir Katz, in Tel Aviv; but was unable to because Nir was murdered in the devastating attack on the Tel Aviv LGBT Center, back in 2009. Now Mr. Schmidt will be expelled from Israel as there is no longer a basis for his immigration.

Nir Katz, and one other person, were killed in the 2009 attack by a masked gunman, who opened fire at a meeting of gay and lesbian youth. The perpetrator has yet to be caught.

A spokeswoman for Israel's Interior Ministry said Wednesday a special humanitarian committee decided last year to allow Schmidt to extend his stay in Israel because of the unique circumstances, but that he would have to leave this month. The Gay community leaders and an Israeli lawmaker are calling on the interior minister to allow Schmidt to stay in the country.

Please write to Minister Eli Yishai to prevent the expulsion of Thomas Schmidt, whose partner was murdered Nir Katz Abbernoaar shooting attack in Tel Aviv.

"Schmidt has lived in Israel for over 6 years, the center of life here, and he ought to have a right to be in he vicinity of his beloved's family, the Katz family. Had it not been for this despicable murder, Nir and Thomas would have been able to complete the proceedings and to regulate the status of Thomas in Israel." According to Nitzan Horowitz.

"Therefore, the Interior Ministry's decision to expel the Thomas, is another blow to this man who lost his partner, and the Katz family who lost a son, and the gay community and society Israel as a whole. There would be no harm caused to Israel if Thomas Schmidt were allowed to remain. if the Minister accepts this request – it would demonstrate openness and understanding. " Said Horowitz.

While immigration laws of all Countries ought to be respected Countries must remain open to special circumstances – and Israel is no different. Clearly this young man had established his life around living in Israel and moving back to Germany was not part of his plan, and would be onerous. Given the nature of the tragedy, Israel should indeed honor the memory of the fallen Katz, by allowing his partner to remain in the Country.

Israel is a Country that endorses LGBT rights through the progressive laws of the Israeli Kneset and needs to  show the same compassion it expects from the rest of the world when it concerns the  treatment of Jews.

Giving Up The Ghost

Hollywood is once again rewriting History by casting a white woman is the role of Cleopatra.
Look no offense but Egypt is in Africa...North Africa but that still isn’t Europe and Cleopatra was not a European Queen who immigrated to North Africa.
Sheesh I thought that Elizabeth Taylor would have been the last, but apparently Angelina Jolie is  set to play the Queen  of the Nile.
Hey Angie’s a babe but I’m NOT the only person who’s noticed this attempt to “white wash” history once again.
Angelina Jolie draws criticism for being 'too white' to play Cleopatra in upcoming Scott Rudin film
Historians say Cleopatra probably looked more like this computer generated model (l.), than bombshell Angelina Jolie who is slated to play her in an upcoming film.
Angelina Jolie is one of the most beautiful women in the world, but her "perfect" looks have some critics complaining she's all wrong for her latest role.
Earlier this month producer
Scott Rudin got the Internet buzzing with his announcement that he was developing a Cleopatra biopic "for and with Jolie" based on Stacy Schiff's book "Cleopatra: A Life."
Schiff raved about the choice, telling
USA Today, "Physically, she's the perfect look."
But some members of the African American community beg to differ -- they are outraged by the casting decision and say Jolie is "too white" to play the Egyptian Queen.

In fact the only person who has fit the role of Cleopatra in my opinion is Lenor Varela who played the Egyptian Queen in a 1998 television miniseries: Cleopatra
Lenor Varela
"I don't care how full Angelina Jolie's lips are, how many African children she adopts, or how bronzed her skin will become for the film,"
Shirea Carroll wrote in an editorial for Essence.com.
"I firmly believe this role should have gone to a Black woman...What's next? A biopic on...

No No No..Not a Black woman but evidence obtained by studying the dimensions of Arsinöe’s skull shows she had some of the characteristics of white Europeans, ancient Egyptians and black Africans, indicating that Cleopatra was probably of mixed race. Mixed Race.  Not Lily White and Not Black. Mixed Race kind of like me.  Maybe I should play Cleo.
This isn't the first time Jolie has found herself at the center of a debate about race in Hollywood.
In 2007, in the Movie: A Mighty Heart Jolie sparked controversy when she wore tinted make-up to play the role of slain
Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl's wife Marian, who is partly of African descent. Pearl herself took to the press to defend Jolie, telling Time Magazine, "It is not about the color of your skin. It is about who you are."
I saw that movie and Angelina’s skin hardly looked tinted, she looked like she always does.  BTW I hadn’t notice that Marianne Pearl was mixed race either. But she is beautiful.
It Was A Good Movie People Watch it  Now

Cleotpatra Controversy (Cont.)
While experts can't say with certainty what Cleopatra looked like, physically speaking, Jolie is probably not the most historically accurate choice. For starters, she's probably too tall, beautiful and skinny, according to what historians now know.
Lenor Varela was the most historically correct version of Cleopatra being petite with an  olive complex.
Lenor Varela is Chilean.
"Sadly for those who seek the secret of her personal allure, the more we study Cleopatra's surviving images, the less certain we may be of her [allegedly gorgeous] looks,"

Susan Walker, a senior curator at the British Museum, told the British Sunday Times.
In fact,
according to ABC News, Egyptologists insist that the legendary temptress, known for having used her beauty to seduce Roman Emperor Julius Caesar and general Mark Anthony, was actually "short, fat and plain." thank the goddess Varela wasn’t.
Despite the controversy, Jolie is still at least one fan's ideal choice to play the Queen.
Michael Pietsch, publisher of Little, Brown (which will put out Schiff's book this November) told UsMagazine.com, "Angelina Jolie radiates grace and power, exactly the qualities of the most intriguing ruler who ever lived." Blah Blah Blah.
Here’s the thing: White women need to stop being glorified in film and black women need to accept that not every body identifies solely as black.

Can We Talk?

I’ve never been a Bette, Tina, or Dana, or Alice fan. In fact every character I liked on the L Word was doomed to Ilene Chaiken’s chopping block.

But Ms. “Never produced an episode that she didn’t have her attorneys advice on taking from others” really messed up when she frakked up the HOTTEST Couple on the L Word.

Crazy Like A Fox

Yesterday I read on another lesbian website an article they were critiquing his assertion that movies that feature insane women are Academy Award “shoo-ins.”

Of course they were right to challenge his assumption.  Of course it depends on the actor’s ability to be a “transformative” character.  In Black Swan Natalie Portman portrayed a character that not so guilelessly moved from one psychological and physiological state to another.

Nina’s internal psychological battle was palpable. We felt her nervousness, at least I felt it. That sense of dire. Good work.  Although I fear she will become a victim of Nina Sayers' and maybe that’s why she made a couple of so-so movies, so we wouldn’t become spoiled.

Glenn Beck's brutal, hateful routine

Article - Goldberg Beck Soros

Warning: This column contains offensive language.

WASHINGTON — After MSNBC let Keith Olbermann go, Glenn Beck couldn't resist celebrating. “Keith Olbermann is the biggest pain in the ass in the world,” he judged.

But Olbermann's departure really should give Beck pause: At a time when political speech is coming under new scrutiny, how much longer can Beck's brutal routine continue at Fox News?

The latest omen of Beck's end times came on Thursday — Holocaust Remembrance Day — when 400 rabbis representing all four branches of American Judaism took out an ad demanding that Beck be sanctioned for what quotations in the ad called his “monstrous” and “beyond repugnant” use of anti-Semitic imagery in going after Holocaust survivor George Soros.

“It is not appropriate to accuse a 14-year-old Jew hiding with a Christian family in Nazi-occupied Hungary of sending his people to death camps,”

A Fox spokesman brushed off the complaint in the usual fashion, attributing it to a “Soros-backed left-wing political organization.” But that's not going to fly: The statement's signatories included the chief executive of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and his predecessor, the dean of the conservative Jewish Theological Seminary rabbinical school, and a number of orthodox rabbis.

Beck has survived past complaints over his race-baiting, his violent words and his conspiracy theories. He's not new to questionable talk about Jews (years ago he called Barbra Streisand a “big-nosed cross-eyed freak”), and for the past couple of years his Nazi accusations against opponents have come by the hundreds.

But in June, he promoted on air the work of a Nazi sympathizer, Elizabeth Dilling, who had, in writings Beck didn't mention, referred to Dwight D. Eisenhower with a particularly vile anti-Semitic slur, and John F. Kennedy's New Frontier as the “Jew Frontier.” A few days later, Beck referred to Soros' Jewish ancestry, accused him of currency manipulation and said “he's got disturbing hair in his nose.”

On July 13, Beck told his Fox viewers: “Jesus conquered death. He wasn't victimized. ... If he was a victim, and this theology was true, then Jesus would have come back from the dead and made the Jews pay for what they did.” (After complaints, Beck clarified that “the Romans, not the Jews, put Jesus to death.”)

(George Soros is a big threat to Fox News and the Republican Party.  Why? Notwithstanding the glaring and blinding idiocy of those groups, Soros is a philanthropist, who supports liberal /progressive a.k.a intelligent” candidates and causes).

Soros is a Billionaire, a capitalist, yet Republicans demonize him in the most adolescent ways so their asinine followers in the Tea-Party and at the trailer parks understand.

On Nov. 9, the anniversary of Kristallnacht, a precursor of the Holocaust. Beck — by sheer coincidence, no doubt — marked the anniversary with a three-night series on Fox attacking Soros as “the puppet master.” (Of course you get the sarcasm, because there’s no such thing as a “coincidence”)

“The prime minister of Malaysia called Soros an ‘unscrupulous profiteer,' ” Beck reported. “In Thailand, he was branded the ‘economic war criminal.' They also said that he sucks the blood from people.”

Puppet master. Unscrupulous banker. Bloodsucker. These are hoary anti-Semitic stereotypes. The Malaysian leader's words cited by Beck came from remarks describing a Jewish conspiracy against Muslims.

And Beck wasn't done. He called Soros “a collaborator” with Nazis who “saw people into the gas chambers,” and “a Jewish boy helping send the Jews to the death camps.” In fact, Soros' father had hidden the boy from the Nazis by placing him with a Hungarian man assigned to record belongings of Jewish families who had fled.

“It is not appropriate to accuse a 14-year-old Jew hiding with a Christian family in Nazi-occupied Hungary of sending his people to death camps,” the 400 rabbis wrote in their ad.

Beck responded on his radio show Thursday by joking with his sidekicks that “attacks are coming out at me now that I'm anti-Semitic.” (Don’t forget racist and xenophobic).

The “Dry Drunk” Beck employed a variation of a defense he has used before: that he's not anti-Semitic because he's pro-Israel and is a fierce critic of Iran.

That's true, but irrelevant: Many conservative Christians support Israel out of a belief that it will help to bring about the Second Coming. Being pro-Israel and pro-Jew aren't the same.

Beck's warm thoughts about Israel, for example, don't excuse what he did two weeks ago on Fox, when he identified nine men responsible for the “era of the big lie.” He spoke of them as propagandists who saw themselves as an “intelligent minority” manipulating the masses. Of the nine men Beck attacked, eight were Jews. “A classic case of anti-Semitic dog-whistling,” alleged Jeff Goldberg of The Atlantic.

Seventy-five years ago, Father Charles Coughlin, the celebrated “radio priest” of the Great Depression, lost his mass-media platform as he moved from veiled references to “driving the money-changers from the temple” to overt anti-Semitism. Now, Beck clings to Fox News' support as evidence that he has not crossed this line.

“Could I put on three hours of television with nothing but lies and smear and keep my job against the most powerful man (Soros) and the most powerful groups in the world?” he asked one night.

It's a question Rupert Murdoch has to confront.

Finding Hidden Treasure

I really loved movies from Hammer Films as a child.  I mean they were British, they were supposed to be horror movies but were mildly offensive and cheesy. So I squealed with joy when I discovered this movie: The Resident. Starring Hillary Swank as a young doctor who suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft, when she learns that her landlord has formed a frightening obsession with her. Also starring Xavier Jardim, and Christopher Lee (veteran Hammer Films Count Dracula).

The Resident will  be available on video March 27, 2011.

'Last Tango In Paris' Star Dies At 58 After Long Battle with Cancer

Maria Schneider in a still from the film Last Tango In Paris, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci.
Maria Schneider will forever be remembered for igniting movie screens as a 19-year-old playing opposite Marlon Brando in the graphically sexual 1972 film Last Tango In Paris. The French actress, who appeared in more than two dozen films, died Thursday in Paris at the age of 58.
Susan King of 24 Frames sums Schneider up this way:
"The word that Maria Schneider died Thursday in Paris at the age of 58 resonates with baby boomers. For them she was a pivotal sexual icon of their youth. In 1973, Schneider was the next big thing. The wildest of wild childs who embraced the sexual revolution with open arms. She was the female lead opposite Marlon Brando in Bernardo Bertolucci's X-rated Last Tango in Paris. Schneider was so overtly sexual she made Brigitte Bardot look like a nun."
The AP quotes her talent agency as saying she died "following a long illness."

The Only Person With Sense is....

The woman who plays “Little Gray” (Lexie)Meredith’s younger sister on Gray’s Anatomy.

Why is she the ONLY person with sense on that show? Well for one thing, she held Mark responsible for his and Callie “Couldn’t wait 24 hours after Arizona leaves for Africa to fuck a dude and get preggers” Torres’ insane behavior. She walked out on him claiming this is the 2nd time he’s tried to force “step-motherhood” on her (the first time was with his formerly estranged pregnant daughter).

That’s EXACTLY what Arizona should have done.  Instead she has to be all self loathing by settling for a woman who repeatedly went out of her way to try and sabotage her once in a lifetime opportunity.

Bottom line is the character Arizona was in Africa for 6 months and gave up her fellowship to return to Callie out of her love for the woman, and that loco Latina screams at Arizona to go away and that she’s pregnant with Mark’s child. She then in a moment of lucidity a few weeks after being force fed reruns Callie is suddenly all in love with Arizona and virtually demands that Arizona decide immediately if she wants to be with Callie.  I told you all Callie was an emotionally abusive woman.

Last season I abruptly stopped watching gray’s Anatomy when the series became too convoluted and asinine.  Well I am again at that point. I am done watching this: “Show For Simpletons (After all that’s what Shonda Rhimes thinks we are).

See you just know that show is going to pull a Queer As Folk story arc where Mark is going to renege on wanting to play a secondary role in his baby’s life. Secondary to Arizona and there’s going to be all this conflict and what not. It’s been done. Maybe someone from that show will read this and get a clue.

Thank the Goddess Californication is now on Showtime...Well Hello Natascha McElhone

The Anti “Skins”

Okay don’t shoot me but I am not feeling MTV’s newest rip-off “Skins.” See I get the edginess they are trying to portray, but let’s face it: American Teens just aren’t that cool. The boys are wishy washy or over compensating with false bravado and machismo at best and the girls:Ah yes the girls...clueless and vapid is putting it mildly.

Yeah I don’t like Skins. It’s been done and I saw the better version, but I still watched the episode with TEA, then she goes and fraks up that nice little memory by “spreading ‘em” for Tony.

See for me, well my youth was more in line with Pretty Little Liars.  What I mean is that my surroundings of my youth is Connecticut is familiar similar to the show.

Did I mention that I like how Emily hasn’t jumped the fence back to heterosexuality yet? That is Okay by Me.

Let’s just hope that Maya doesn’t return all “ex-Lesbian” or whatever they call it, or worse yet: “Bisexual” Duh-Duh-Duuuuh.

The Deafening Silence

What Do Natalie Portman and Lisa Ray have in Common?

Not since the Lesbian Media Blackout of Lisa (Rani) Ray’s two movies: I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen, complete with negation of those movies and lack of publicity, have I seen such a lack of coverage concerning an actress who participated in a lesbian scene in a movie (A story arc that did not result in the inevitable female/male coupling).

Remember the time when if any actor played lesbian the lesbian themed sites would cheer-lead that actor to no end? Apparently those days are gone and now various lesbian media sites and blogs spend time on 2 things: The Lack of lesbian visibility in television and movies or when there are lesbians, the inevitable pregnancy of one of the women.

As ironic as this seems those very same sites promote movies displaying a lesbian inexplicably drawn to the gentalia [sp] of a member of the opposite sex.  Now they are silent when their accolades fall flat with the voting academy.

So Let Me Get This Right: Lesbian oriented Websites and Blogs think it's perfectly fine for lesbians to be portrayed as characters who are confused with their sexual orientation, as long as they put their same sex partner trough emotional turmoil by staying with them after they betray them with a member of the opposite sex, but they mustn’t become impregnated. Yeah sure that  is perfectly logical (Not).

Y’all know I’m talkin’ about the lesbian media backlash against Black Swan (since it’s sweeping up of the Globe and S.A.G Awards) and the lack of media coverage on lesbian oriented sites.  I'm not surprised though cause they did the same thing to Lisa Ray and she made 2 movies that had happy lesbian endings.

Natalie Portman is full steam ahead charging towards a "Three-peat" (Best Actress Golden Globe, S.A.G, Oscar) a.k.a Hollywood's "Triple Crown". (Oh yeah then there’s the B.A.F.T.A’s)
It’s hard to win the first 2 awards and NOT take home the Oscar, but stranger things have happened.

Strange things like lesbian websites and blogs promoting inter-gender infidelity and trying to rationalize it no less.

Too bad the Oscars are so far away (February 27, 2011) and I don’t know when the BAFTA’s are. I just want to get this awards season over with and end the carnage so the girls can relax and stop their conspicuous silence.
