Weekend Movie

I like science fiction movies about futuristic societies. However I always envisioned those societies to be more developed than what I can see out of the window of my home, they’re not. The Island is very stylishly filmed; full OF  EXCITEMENT AND ACTION  and “WOAH” to Jordan ll - Delta: Played by Scarlet Johansson. Baby, the universe must really love you, cause that was some crazy sh*t I sawimage.

Scarlet Johansson in:

Such A Wonderful Thing:

One of the wonderful things about being alive TODAY, NOW and Living In The MOMENT, is the richness that exists in the diversity all around us. How great it is to possess the richness of another culture in one’s ethnicity. I know how it is. I love "my" Germany…I love the land, the language, the design. I love Germany as Much as I love "my" Portugal..I love the food..the romance…the music…as Much as I love "my" Africa, the origin of all human existence on earth.

Therefore what a TRAVESTY for Amandla Sternberg to experience the bigoted wrath of uneducated, functionally illiterate teenagers who are not even intelligent enough to research this fine young actor to learn about her. You'd think that such individuals would be embarrassed that nationally they are regarded as stupid, even if they do hide behind a cloak of anonymity: You should be embarrassed because somebody, somewhere knows your true identity and how stupid you are.

You can clearly see the multiplicity in Amandla Sternberg’s ethnicity: African American, Danish, Greenlandic.
Contrary to what the dominant culture and contrary to what many African Americans believe, to have some African ethnicity doesn’t make one “BLACK.”

My personal opinion of The Hunger Games

A confession: I have not read the books but I watched the movie this past Sunday. I wanted to give myself some leeway so that I was not influenced by some of the negative reports that I read, concerning the racist attitudes of some viewers who were disappointed that a child of color played Rue in the movie. Being biracial, I am not going to go on a rampage bashing white people because such prevailing negative attitudes transcend race and ethnicity. Let’s instead refer to such phenomena as the pathology of the “Dominant” culture. See people of color numerically are the majority, not the minority. PEOPLE Of COLOR are the majority, NOT the minority. However most of us are not members of the dominant culture, which has so far consisted of Western European variables.

How does all of this relate to my impressions of: The Hunger Games?

katniss04Camilla Belle Well The first thing to consider is how Katniss Everdeen looks. She is described as a 16-year old teenager having a “straight black hair, olive skin, and gray eyes.” Katniss is known to be a good hunter. So the girl that would fit the role should be lean and tough. She should be beautiful but not in a very stunning way. Actor Camilla Belle would have been a better choice.
Why Jennifer:
Jennifer Lawrence may have looked appropriate on this magazine cover below, but she didn’t even have that much color in the movie. Native Americans for the most part do not look Caucasian or old world European [Not they are trying to claim an American Indigenous ethnicity] and if the DNA is from a person of color it will dominate the repressive gene. (Particularly in a post Apocalyptic world) where bloodlines are further diluted. Ethnicities like: Swedish, English as well as most  Germanic and Nordic genes are recessive.

Do you now understand why Hitler was obsessed with the Aryan ethnicity being annihilated if mixed with a dominant gene from another culture during World War ll?

This is called: Knowlege aquired from years of education and helps to explain racism.
So if they had to cast a Caucasian as the lead, then she shouldn’t look like one of my mountain dwelling relatives from West Virginia [Hey I told you that I am biracial] and that’s exactly where Katniss is from. Dayum.

imageMore importantly, while watching The Hunger Games:  I wanted to be able to suspend my disbelief. I didn’t want it to pop into my head that I’m watching Woody Harrelson in a really crappy wig play some obscene aristocrat who sacrifices youth for prime time entertainment. I didn’t want to wonder why no one said: Oh hell to the NO!

Everyone was resigned to being told that once the games begin beware and don’t run for the food because they are waiting tom blow you to bits. I would have reluctantly resorted to eating insects (Yuck). People eat bugs and plants all of the time. Besides Humans have survived terrible wars and rebellion is never permanently squelched.

Looks Like Fun…..

Liya Kebede, the  Stunning Ethiopian Supermodel - who has appeared in countless Vogue editorials and campaigns including Lord & Taylor and Balenciaga - is set to image star in the new French flick, Sur La Piste Du Marsupilami which translates to On the Trail of the Marsupilami. The film is based on a series of Belgian comics about two reporters on a quest to find the mysterious animal, the “Marsupilami,” whereupon they meet Queen Paya, played by Liya. Above is the trailer with a few snippets of Liya in a comedic and cute movie.

Before you get all over me for not calling Kebede’s portrayal of a native: “Racist,” it’s a comedy.  Much room can be made for accepting the unacceptable in comedy.  Also Kebe is poking fun at the way Hollywood portrays people of color much like herself, who also happens to be  member of an indigenous culture.

I knew that it would happen

SMASH Ep8: The Coup

I also wrote that Ivy and Derek are developing a real relationship. Okay I really liked Megan Hilty as Marilyn, it's a shame what happens but Tom really is proving to be a decent guy. Megan Hilty is perfect in my eyes (No Kathryn McPhee for me).

Mediocre Men

Yes I waited 9 months for the season 5 premier of “Mad  Men,” as I was watching the show I felt oddly disconnected. I had always wondered why these characters always seem uncomfortable in Social Situations. Why is that? I mean why does Peggy always seem to have a stick shoved up her arse? Why do the guys always act like pricks [more or less].
Zou Bisou Bisou [I confess…I love only you!]

Seriously I was only looking forward to the season 5 premier of Mad Men because of of Jessica Pare…that’s it. Hey I’m no liar and Pare did not disappoint me one bit. Granted she doesn’t have the best voice, but it’s the total package: Her mannerisms, that accent. and the nature of the character that appeals to me. But what was up with the party goers?

Glory Be…and Hallelujah!

Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointing

There’s Good [For the producers} news and Bad [for us} News.

The good news? The Hunger Games made $155 million at the box office its opening weekend, making it the third-best debut in North American box office history. The bad news, however, reflects a level of idiocy that we weren't really expecting.

As CNN reports, "Only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Dark Knight — both sequels, with the strength of a franchise behind each — recorded bigger opening weekends." Plus, unlike those two flicks, Hunger Games was written by a woman and stars a woman — a true lady-centric blockbuster franchise.
Now as you may know, Katniss, the main character in the book and film, was described as having "straight black hair" and "olive skin." It's a post-apocalyptic world, so she could be a mix of things, but some pictured a Native American. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed Jennifer Lawrence won the part and dyed her hair dark.

There’s Aubrey…and then there are GOOD people

Let’s face it: Aubrey O ’Day is a back stabbing, conniving but clueless racist. who would cast your brown mamma to hell if it earned her career points.

Then there are GOOD People like in this clip from: What Would You Do.

Patricia Velasquez…..

You’re FIRED!
Sometimes I wish that I had never gone to college, had never earned a graduate degree [Masters of Science 2006]. Knowledge can sometimes ruin the blissfulness image of ignorance.

No…I don’t really regret going to school, but it’s a pain in the arse when I write in my last post about The Celebrity Apprentice, that the white women were colluding and conspiring to get rid of Patricia Velasquez and Dayana Mendoza [the only two women of color] and this week Aubrey choose both Patricia and Diana to company her to the boardroom after they lose a challenge so one of them will be fired.

See this is what white people do. Even though Aubrey was the project manager, she insisted that her team losing wasn’t her fault. Out of the 5 challenges their team has had, they’ve lost 3 and only won 2. Aubrey was always trying to control every challenge, she is the one that should have been fired. I didn't watch the entire two hours because I can’t stand watching women of color being out-numbered. This is what whites have done throughout history, from Before the Treaty of Versailles to something as seemingly inconsequential as The Celebrity Apprentice.

Oh My….

Well Hello There….

Our Miss Brooks

Often I get stuck in a "Loop." The last loop circled around Raquel Welch.  Now I've gone as far back as the 1920s, thanks to the movie "The Artist" I am suddenly ALL into studying Silent Film. Actually I'm more into studying Louise Brooks.
If I had the power to travel back in time [what is it? 85 years more or less.] I would hope to circumvent the prevailing normative ethnic and social assumptions of the time and sleep with Louise Brooks. Eventually I'd get to stopping Hitler, 9/11, Yadda Yadda Socially Conscious Stuff...but I mean...Come On. This woman was Beyond HOT, besides My Heart Wants What It Wants and not many of Today’s women have “It” but Louise had "It". Check out the first few seconds of this music video: LuLu is caught making out with the producer by BOTH the Man and Woman who are in love LuLu.

I downloaded the full version of Pandora's Box. This movie had everything that today's feature length movies have: Murder, Sex, Scandal, Lesbianism, Gambling. at Over 2 hour’s and 12 minutes the movie and our Miss Brooks were truly ahead of the times.

I would love to have given Louise Brooks an “Exotic” Delight.

Weekend Movie

“Gone” stars Amanda Seyfried as Jill, a troubled young waitress haunted by flashbacks of her abduction a year earlier. That experience left her with a psychiatric record and the police with the conviction that her assailant was fictional. So when Jill’s sister mysteriously disappears, behaving like a complete lunatic is probably not Jill’s best move. Featuring Kate Meonnig.

I Don't Know About You…..

But for me Pretty Little Liars will cease to exist, unless they partner Emily with an ethnic woman of color next season.

Now I am spending my energy on:

Mad Men's Back! Get Your 4-Minute Crash Course on Last Season

Oh My Goddess She KILLED Kenny…Er I mean Maya

Entertainment Weekly posted an interview with showrunner Marlene King and executive producer Oliver Goldstick, in which they confirmed that Maya really is dead:”
Who killed Maya? Why is Maya Dead? Who’s house was that and why was Emily’s mother there if it wasn’t her house? If it was her house couldn’t she identify Maya’s body?
Does it matter? I knew that Stalker “Crazy Eyes” Paige was going to return to torment Emily.

Who is “A”?
EVERYONE knows that Mona was the “Fake” A and that the Real “A” still lurking, waiting to wreak havoc, because it’s Allison’s identical twin crazy sister. Meanwhile did they truly identify Alison? Because in the book, Crazy Alison switched identity’s with “Sane” Alison and since crazy Alison was supposed to be in a nuthouse, but that’s where “Sane” Alison was sent.

Maybe the show will change this from the original story but that is who the “Real” A is: Alison’s insane Identical Twin sister.

So since the producers and writers wanted to ruin it for those who liked the character of Maya St. Germaine, I will ruin it for those who didn’t like her.
But why did they have to turn Maya from an emotionally mature, trustworthy teen to a conniving and sniveling dishonest liar?
And why did they bring back Crazy Eyes Paige? Now who is imagegonna save Emily? You know that “Crazy Eyes” Paige meant to harm Maya. Paige is obsessed with Emily. Can Psycho Paige make it any more obvious that she has been stalking Emily in hopes of getting some sweet stuff? Paige: “Oh Emily, I am so sorry.” Translation: You better Run girl.
I’m not going to rage on Twitter with the other Maya St. Germaine supporters, I’m not going to establish a petition to voice my dissatisfaction. It’s over and as far as I’m concerned I am over Pretty Little Liars, as I previously wrote: Racial diversity was the cornerstone of the show and having one woman of color [Emily] partnered with another woman of color [Maya] was pretty progressive.

Strange and Beautiful

This is the first Oscar interview I’ve seen with Berenice on the Red Carpet. Bejo deserved the Oscar for transcending racial stereotypes, that means that Octavia Butler didn’t do anything new by playing a maid.

Getting Away With Murder

I waited before posting this. When I first saw the article about the young man being shot, I figured it was going to pass as these types of things usually do and considering the fact that I am always ranting against the racist American society this story was a bit too heavy. But enough is enough and I can no longer ignore the story. See it happened in a multi racial community, so it wasn’t like it was a “Fish Out Of Water” scenario. There was NO reason for Trayvon Martin NOT to be in that neighborhood.  Believe me when I write that I see why some biracial individuals like myself ultimately will turn their back on the white population because of their racist bull]  but I am happy to see this woman speaking the truth, because you KNOW that if the shooter had been a person of color and the victim a white teen, well that "Community Watch-man" would have already been arrested:

See the other day I learned that he was shot as he walked home, talking on his cell phone to his girlfriend, today I heard the 911 calls where the shooter tells the police he is FOLLOWING the kid to seems up to NO Good merely because his skin is brown. Today I hear the police tell the shooter that they were on their way and NOT to follow the kid.
Today I learned that the girl the kid was speaking to on his cell home told the kid to run just before he was shot.

She was really BAD..No Really

I remember when I first posted about Erin Martin of The Voice. I was excited because here was a young woman whose voice has already been heard on  such television shows like: Pretty Little Liars.  Plus she has a GIRLFRIEND!
But this performance was so WRONG in so many ways! Here’s the thing: This is what Hollywood does, because the entertainment industry is a business and performers are viewed as products, the producers have to find new and interesting ways to bring a new product to the consumer. They do this by creating television shows that are supposed to be “Real Life” competitions. The only real life anything that I have seen is when American Idol announces it’s auditions and the city they will be in.

To me The Voice and Fashion Star appear to be very contrived and pretty easy to figure out that the competing talent has already been chosen, it was fully intended to pass Erin to the next round. Oh andthe Sheild's Brothers SUCKED also. All of them should have been sent home.

The Workshop:

Marilyn the Musical is finally being presented to potential investors. Is Ivy Lynn in jeopardy because she told Derek off in the last episode because he humiliated her? And Julia makes a decision after her affair with the male lead is exposed.

SMASH, Megan Hilty, Kathryn McPhee, Debra Messing

Shut The @#$! Up!

I have a couple of issues with this show:

1. Donald Trump is an over exposed pompous and annoying bore.

2. This season the "Isms" abound: "Able-ism" [discrimination against the disabled, in this instance against deaf contestant Lou Ferrigno, which is disgusting] and Racism, rears it's ugly head yet again as the white female contestants join forces to demolish the women of color.
The Latinas didn’t do this, they don’t say that the women of color make the strongest team and they DON’T isolate the white members of the team.

Louise Brooks was another actor whose persona Berenice Bejo integrated into her role as Peppy Miller in The Artist.

Watch: Pandora's Box [Full Unedited Movie] HERE
Cinema's first Potrayal of a Lesbian

“The great art of films does not consist in descriptive movement of face and body, but in the movements of thought and soul transmitted in a kind of intense isolation.” –Louise Brooks

Sometimes I wish that I were born during the age of silent movies, but as a woman of color I know that times would have been harsh. I am happy though that I can still partake of the beauty of the era.
Louise Brooks — The stunning tastemaker of the ’20s & ’30s, who made women everywhere chop their hair, and created the bold and wildly popular “flapper girl” movement.  Louise Brooks’ dark and exotic looks drew a throng of faithful followers that continues to this day. Early on her onscreen talent was often criticized for being somewhat lackluster– but all that changed with a trip to Berlin.  Director G.W. Pabst cast her in two films– Pandora’s Box (1928), and Diary of a lost Girl (1929), that not only cast out all doubts about her talent, it also rose her following to cult status.

Brooks, was known to be strongly independent, and unliked by Hollywood’s elite for not always being the submissive woman expected of her, was beckoned back to Hollywood to record sound retakes for The Canary Murder Case (1929). She flatly refused. Many in Hollywood blacklisted her for her defiance– and in a final act of independence she decidedly ended her own acting career in 1938.  She flirted with a comeback, but by 1946, she was a sales girl at Saks Fifth Avenue making $40-a-week.  She went on to become an accomplished  painter and writer– publishing several novels, including her own biography– Lulu in Hollywood.

Inspiration and Soul

How many days, weeks and months did I have to read about the movie Juno and Ellen Page? So if I write about Berenice Bejo you’ll have to bear with me. Yes Ellen is doing the same thing for Portia but too bad it's in schlocky American Comedy.

Michel_Berenice When I first started writing about this beautiful and marvelous actor I stated that the movie: The Artist was a movie that was specifically written for HER by her husband the director of the movie Michel Hazanavicius. I saw The Help and yes Octavia Butler was good [If you like the Sapphire stereotype].

Bejo is a woman of color making her role in The Artist essentially the result of “Color Blind” casting. “Color Blind” casting, or integrated casting is done without considering the actor’s ethnicity. As a result Bejo’s acting far exceeded what anyone was expecting, unfortunately since Hollywood still refuses to see women of color “beyond the pale” they rewarded what made them most comfortable: An African American actress in the stereotypical Mammy role.
